Two years ago, twenty-eight year-old Ronnie Bower weighed 675 pounds. He had lost his job, become confined to his apartment, and was told by doctors he might not live to the age of thirty-five. Just in time, Bower’s former high school teacher, Joe Bufano, took note of Bower’s plight and decided to help.

With the support of Bufano, the assistance of two trainers, and Taylor Swift’s upbeat music, Ronnie began a weight-loss journey that lasted two years. Bufano says, “The only thing that would give him the energy, or something to look forward to, during his deepest, darkest times were these upbeat songs. It kept him buying into life.”

In a video that has now gone viral, Ronnie Bower’s progress can be tracked from day one to day 707 as he works out to Taylor Swift’s music. Throughout the whole video, Bower radiates positivity; day 110 is marked with a video clip of Bower in the gym, happily pointing out that his favorite, Taylor Swift, is playing on the gym loudspeakers.

This May, Ronnie Bower hit the 250 lb mark. To commemorate his huge accomplishment, he will be attending Taylor Swift’s 1989 tour stop in Cleveland, OH. Both Bower and Bufano are crossing their fingers that the viral video and subsequent twitter hashtag #ronnieweightloss will catch Swift’s attention.

In a People Magazine interview, Bower said: “I think I would be too star struck if I met her, even though I have every single one of her songs and albums…I’d probably keep it simple and tell her, ‘Thank you for inspiring me through your music.’”
